Love American Style

When we think of February, we’re bound to think of Valentine’s Day. We can hardly help it. Almost immediately after the post Christmas/New Year’s holiday sales, Cupids and red hearts started appearing everywhere as retailers rushed into the next selling season. We can’t fight it, so let’s embrace it. (Pun intended!)

This is the month for romance and it can be seen throughout this issue. Let’s start with bringing some romance into your clients’ homes with soothing, warm and inviting interior designs (Portfolio, page 30). Here we find luxurious use of fabrics, appealing color palettes and, above all, privacy.

Next, let’s turn our attention to our love affair with decorative hardware (page 44). We’ve always known that attention to detail is the difference between good design and rooms that quicken your heart rate with delight. It seems few things can bring out the elegance in a design or enhance the feeling of a room like just the right selection of hardware. To top it off, so to speak, check out the Hardware Market Report 2003 (page 41) to learn what some hardware suppliers see ahead in terms of trends and styles, and then look over some of the latest products available in the Hardware Outlook and Product Showcase that follow.

What could be more romantic than helping clients achieve the homes of their dreams? In Market Trends (page 20) we learn that most Americans want safe, comfortable havens. They also want the very best in their homes, and are willing to sacrifice space to afford it.

Finally, our cover story this month (page 22) features a special kind of love story. It’s the love of a workroom owner and his family for the work they do—the precision, the perfection, the attention to detail comes out in every custom drapery treatment they make, and it is what has caught the attention of some of Southern California’s top designers. But it’s also the love of Jack and Martha Picazo who have worked through times that would have caused others to quit in order to achieve the American Dream: success doing what they love to do. They’ve been together 45 years and working together for more than 25 years—that’s love!
